Four Four's quiz.
4 / 4 + 4 - 4 = 1
4 + 4 - 4 - √4 = 2
( 4 x 4 - 4 ) / 4 = 3
√4 + √4 - 4 + 4 = 4
4 x 4 + 4 / 4 = 5
√4 + 4 + 4 - 4
4 - 4 / 4 + 4 = 7
4 / 4 x 4 + 4 = 8
4 / 4 + 4 + 4 = 9
√4 + √ 4 + √ 4 + 4 = 10
√4 + √4 + 4 + 4 = 11
√4 + √4 + 4 + 4 = 12
4! x √4 + 4 / 4 = 13
√4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 14
4 x 4 - 4 / 4 = 15
4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16
4 / 4 + 4 x 4 = 17
4 x 4 + 4 - √4 = 18
4! - 4 - 4 / 4 =
4 x 4 + (√4 x √4) = 20
Kia Ora everyone!
I decided to finish off some work that I didn't get to do from the previous week because of prefects, extension , etc. Because of that I had missed a LOT of maths, so I decided to 'time travel' back in the time and do them.
When I went 'back in time' I got introduced by the four four's quiz. It's a really complicated challenge until you learn what every operation does.
This challenge was a struggle considering that I didn't know that a exclamation mark was a operation and I didn't know what square root was. When I first found out about square root I was doing great, that until 13, 19. I didn't know what to do, so I decided to search it up. It lead me too a Wikipedia page with all the answers.
I saw that there was a exclamation mark so I was awfully confused.
I wanted to 'understand' the question before posting it on my blog, since I looked t up I of course had to understand it so it's fair.
I found out that the exclamation mark meant something in the lines of this - 4! = 1 x 2 x 3 x 4. My mind was blown when I found that out !
If you still don't understand this quiz, we basically had to create numbers, 1 - 20 using only four 4's.
I hope you forgive me for looking it up !
Hi Simon,
ReplyDeleteWow Im so excited that you learnt about factorials (the exclamation mark). You are right, 4! is 4x3x2x1. So 10! would be 10x9x8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1. This was a pretty tricky problem - well done for getting so far before consulting the internet, what a great mathematician you are.
