My notes.

Buried People

The red pyramid

Kufu

They first wanted to bury them in the sand but they got dug up by wild animals and got stolen by thieves.

The pyramids were created so the dead people's valuables they wore wouldn’t get stolen since they believe that they should wear them when dead.

The Red Pyramid, believed to be the first pyramid

Pharaoh

Kufu, created the great pyramid giza by himself.

Took 10 - 20 years to build.

(2.3 million blocks of stone)

Tallest man-made structure for over 4000 years.

Kufu created some more pyramids from his wives to be buried in.

Two more temples for the honour of his death.

Built 4500 years ago.

These were my notes for my three topics for our information report.

Extension Reflection 26/5/21

Today for extension, me and Jane... my extension term 2 partner finally got to start our presentation! We both created fabulous and interesting questions about Mars and our different perspectives.

I decided to take the questions " What would it feel like to sweat in a different planet" and "Are there any body parts that get oxygen directly from the air and not from the blood?

Stay tuned for more! Check out Jane's blog for her reflection!

Leadership Goals

Task description.
Today we had a decision to help us experience what it's like being in college. Out of the four options I decided to put  my inquiry task as my third activity. This inquiry task was about being a leader and a leadership goals.  First we had to write what were already leading, for example - you could be a house captain for your school. Then after that we had to write our goals for leadership, for example - "I would like to help people at school more often".

Leadership

Task description.
Today I had an option and I decided my second activity would be a reading activity. We had to do Mrs. Ilaoa's leadership task. It was really easy for me because I know the qualities of being a leader as I am a leader myself!

Year 8 Camp Highlight

Last week, the majority of the year 8’s went to year 8 camp. Fortunately I was one of those year 8’s that went to camp. The camp that we went to was called ‘Kauearanga Valley Christian Camp’.

My highlight of camp was definitely just being able to have a break of school and play with my friends. Every week of school has been really special but this year 8 camp made me ease my mind with the very fun activities and the comforting food the chef, Josh made. It was nice being able to have a break from prefects and other school work. Even though I barely got any sleep it was still very nice and enjoyable!

It was also very nice to learn how to be a leader and try to help each other.

I would love to thank every staff member of Kauaeranga Camp and also the Point England staff members that were able to make this camp possible.

Today I had a choice, using this choice I decided to write a reflection about Year 8 Camp and share my experience to my blog viewers. This was surprisingly very fun to write, not sure why but it's very nice reflecting on what I did.

Equivalent Fractions

Today for maths we were learning about equivalent fractions. As I am very bad at fractions this was quiet challenging. Although it was really fun learning about new things.

Mars - Inquiry Task

Task description.
Today for literacy I finished of my presentation about Mars. This task was extremely challenging as I didn't know much about mars. Thankfully I now have a great mindset about how cool mars is!

This is my writing task, just in case if you can't access it!

Mars is also ‘similar’ to earth, as it has water, oxygen and more! Since earth is dying, scientists believe it would be the most likely planet for us ( humans ) to live on as it is ‘similar’ to earth. Mars also had 38% gravity from earth, which scientists believe it’s adaptable for humans. It also has a good temperature, it’s not hot and it’s not too cold.

Mars is named after  by an ancient Roman God, who was the God of War. The name ‘Mars’  resembles the vermillion colour, blood. Did you know that the Romans weren’t the only one to agree with Mars being associated with blood, other religions actually agreed!

The sunset in mars is actually blue and during the day the sky is pinkish red. It must be so cool living on mars but very hard to adapt to a pink sky and blue sunset! The colour of the sky actually depends on the planet's atmosphere. Mars' atmosphere take’s the pinkish red for the day, but once the sunset goes down… Mars’ atmosphere takes the blue from the solar spectrum which makes it blue.

Do you reckon it’d be cool to live on Mars?

What is the Earth?

Today for inquiry we learnt about the earth and the four spheres.

Streets for everyone - Finished

Today, we were fortunate enough to play the games we created. It was so fun and I hope children around Glen Innes enjoy it too.

The first games we played were the ones my group designed which was so cool! As you know, my group  chose 'join the dots' but we improved it so it was so much better! Although my favourite activity was definitely the last one which was a race.

Boat Challenge

Today, we had a challenge. We were put into groups of four. I was in a wonderful group with Oalii, Lucian and Lincoln.  We had to create a boat with the materials we were given with. We could use the packaging if we wanted to aswell.

This challenge was so fun and it was great getting to know each other. We communicated very well and even if our boat wasn't that cool... we still were proud of it.

Our boat managed to float which is really incredible!

Mathletics

Today for maths we did a mathletics. We were put into groups and I was luckily in a group with Oalii, Hannah, Christina and Chaun. We ended up doing very good but I did make one tiny mistake.

Overall we did very well and we all worked as a team which I'm really happy about!

This is a photo of one of our worksheets!

I wonder who's gonna win this challenge and get a special prize from Mrs. Stone, our maths teachers!

Earth Activity

This presentation was basically just a basic old reading task where we had to answer questions about the earth. I thought this slideshow will be boring and I thought there was way to much work, but it's actually a very reasonable amount of work and I was able to finish it in two days!

This is my create task and I chose the create task of creating a presentation about earth. I used all my knowledge from extension to create a presentation that was very presentable to show in the public.

Cultural Barriers - Week 1

Today for extension, to keep up with our literacy were gonna read poems every extension session and answer questions.

Today we were reading a poem about cultural barriers and we had to answer questions like " What was the main problem. The main problem about this poem was that people are all different, different cultures, different pronunciations, etc.

The poem started off with a girl with a really unique and cool name, Hinewirangi and a girl on the phone who has trouble saying her name.

We had to answer questions like " What was the main problem?". This was really hard since I'm not very experienced in poems and I don't pay attention the the important details. Sadly I couldn't take a photo of my worksheet since it was copyrighted.

Year 7 & 8 Project ( Watch This Space)

Ms. West gave us a scenario about the earth ending in 12 months. We had to answer questions like... " what are we gonna bring to the planet?". These questions were really challenging as we had to try and be in that persons perspective.

We opened up our minds and also dig deeper into google and found heaps of solutions and answer to each questions.

I chose to be in a pair with my friend Jane and our topic for our project was... " What will happen to our bodies when we go to that planet, what will it look like in our pov? ".
Our topic was basically based on one of the questions in the slides, "What might living in a planet look like" instead, we wanted to go deeper into the questions find out what happens to our bodies, heart, etc.

Check out Jane's blog and read her perspective of this project! Click here.

Watch This Space - W1

Yesterday, we were learning about the Earth. We had to write down things we knew about the earth already, e.g - the earth is green and blue. Then we had to write things we wanted to know, like how is the earth green or blue? Then we researched a bit to find the solution to our answers.

Immersion Assembly

This morning, we found out our topic was “Watch The Space” at our first school assembly. In immersion assembly our wonderful teachers created movies, plays and  songs for us and only us, so we felt really special.

My favourite part of the immersion assembly was Team Fives play about the solar system and our milky way. Team 5 represented a way to talk about each individual planet, and told us different facts. I found out a lot about the solar system when I was younger, but watching this play made me experience a lot more and go deeper into the solar system.

My next favourite part was team fours movie, which was based on the movie called “Guardians of the Galaxy”. It was really funny especially when Mr. Hughes was dancing, it was a really cringy and funny dance. I believe they’re focusing on earth and its systems, like the ozone layer and more!

I can’t wait to learn more about the solar system in this term!
