Forest schools or Public schools?

WALT: Express and justify an opinion.

Task description.
Ms. Tapuke created a writing task based on forest schools. We were learning about forests schools. We had to write which school we would go to. A public school or a forest school. We had to express and justify our opinion in our writing.

How Volcanoes Erupt!

Task description.

I finished my animation for term 2, for this animation I had to draw a volcano and explain how it erupts, but before all that. We had to draw it in heaps of detail and make us sound like a real scientists, we had to do that by talking about things that makes it erupt like the tectonic plates! We had to explain how tectonic plates create a steaming hot volcanic eruption. After I talked about the tectonic plates and how it creates a volcano eruption I then added some more slides and made a forest fire!

Decimal Delight!

Task description.
The four student teachers created an activity based on place value. In this task, we had to try and figure out the secret word. We had to colour in the value it tells us to colour in. E.g, if it says tenths, we have to colour in the tenths column. After we were done, we have to post it on our blog.

Matariki Day 2020

Last week, on Friday our whole school, and probably the rest of the Manaiakalani community had our Matariki day. We had to celebrate it early because the real Matariki day is during the school holidays.

When I arrived at school, I was wondering what group I was in. As I walked in the class, I asked my teacher Ms. Tapuke. She told me that I was in arts and crafts, which really bothered me because I wanted to be in cooking. I chose arts and crafts last yet I still got in arts and crafts. It bugged me until the school assembly.

After our team assembly, we had to go to a school assembly which is held by Mr. Burt. In our assembly, we had a choir singing a waiata. The waiata is called Matariki. When the choir sang the waiata, they sounded amazing! I wish everyone would have come, they would have been VERY surprised. The rest assembly was pretty normal, it’s basically a normal school assembly.

After the school assembly, we had to go to our home classes. We had to get our bags from our class and have a little talk. I forgot what Ms. Tapuke even said, but I remember sitting down! After that talk, we then had to go to our group. My group was literally right in front of my class. I was actually pretty happy because I figured out that I was in a group with 3 of my closest friends. Their names are Pauline, Jane and Nina! This got me very excited.

Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Carrathers told us what we were going to do for the day. They said we were gonna make the seven stars, aka the seven sisters. We first had to decorate our stars. We had to make some kind of pattern. Then after we were done decorating the seven stars, we had to paint our background for our stars. We finished painting it just in time, like 5 minutes before lunch.

Then we had to let it dry during lunch. After lunch, we had to glue the seven stars on our background. But sadly my background was kind of wet so the stars didn’t stick well. Then we had one last assembly until we went home with our masterpieces.

This is what happened on Matariki day! Overall it was actually pretty fun!

Poster 2020 , In the News...

Task description.

Today, I did a task Ms. Tapuke created. This activity is about creating something. We had 3 choices, I decided to choose the 2nd one. Which is making a poster for families to come in and visit Auckland city. I enjoyed this task a lot considering the fact this was time consuming! After we were done making the poster, we have to share it to the world.

Worthy Words! Activity 4

Task description.
Ms. Tapuke created a task of "In the News...". But instead of being a presentation you can finish in a day, she decided to make it longer. So, that means we have to do heaps of activities. This activity is actually activity 4, as you can see. If you've been looking at the activities I've done. You would noticed I skipped activity 3. Well, that's because were doing activity 3 next week. This activity is based on words. The words we find hard. We have to find 4 words we don't understand in the article. We had to put our worthy words next to the numbers then highlight them. Then we had to share it on our blog, telling our viewers what words we find hard in the article.

The Sky Tower Lights For Matariki, Word Groups

From 24th to 28th June, 4th to 5th July and 10th to 12th July/ the Sky Tower/ will shine /like a sunrise/ in celebration/ of Matariki/, the Māori New Year/.

The Sky Tower/ will be lit /with an orange base,/ rising to/ a vibrant yellow/ at the top/, mimicking dawn/, in celebration/ of the /Matariki Festival/ and the/ rise of the/ Matariki constellation./

When the/ Matariki constellation/ rises in the/ north-eastern skies,/it signals/ to Māori/ that the/ New Year/ will begin./

The Māori/ New Year/ is a /special time/ of year/ to be/ with family and friends/, reflect on/ the past/, remember those/ who are not with us/ and prepare /for the year ahead./

Claire Walker, Chief People & Culture Officer/ says “Matariki/ is a great time/ for communities/ to come/ together /to acknowledge/ the year /gone by./ It’s been/ tough with COVID-19,/ but now/ it’s time to make plans/ for the year ahead/ and celebrate/ with kai, kōrero, rituals and entertainment.

Task description.
Today, we did a activity for our "In the News...." task. I had a lot of trouble with this task because I didn't know what to do. I did listen, believe me but I was still confused. We were talking about something called word groups. We had to add slashes in each sentence for a particular reason. After we were done we then have to share it to the world. (Before)

(Now) Ms. Tapuke helped me and helped me understand the concepts about this activity. I realised that we had to split some words together because it just belongs to each other. Now I didn't have any troubles splitting them up!
