Having the Prime Minister for Lunch!

Today we had a once in a life time opportunity...We met the Prime Minister! She came because she created a policy for schools to get free lunches and we are one of them! Room 21, which is a year 3 and 4 class emailed her about how much they liked the lunches. She loved the emails so much that she decided she wanted to come to our school.

It was such an awesome experience, when she arrived she joined us for an assembly. We sang waiata, said a karakia and listened to her speak. We couldn't believe what she said!

The Prime Minister talked to us about all the letters she get's (She reads all of them!). She said "You don't have to be old for people to care about you opinions". It inspired us because we thought you had to be an adult to speak up! She also told us a bit about her life and asked if their were any issues that worried us. We talked about Covid, the house prices and student access to advices.

After giving her some flowers and the Manaiakalani hook, she came to room four and ate lunch with us. She handed the lunches out one by one to everyone. We got asked question by the Prime Minister like: "What do you think could improve in the lunches?", and "What was your favourite lunch so far?".

The Prime Minister was really considerate when talking to us, she gave everyone a piece of her time. Our school is so grateful for this experience and hoped she enjoyed her visit. Thank you Prime Minister, for everything. We will never forget having lunch with you.

My Experience with the Prime Minister ( Jacinda Ardern )

Today, I was able to meet Jacinda Ardern, Our Prime Minister ! This was a really EXCITING experience, the particular reason for this is because I look up to her, HEAPS.  I was also able to shake her hand, which is even more exciting than just meeting her.

Meeting her was such a privilege! I’m very happy that she decided to use one hour of her time to just have lunch with us!

One of the couple things I learnt from her is that underaged children, like me, are allowed to email her and tell us our opinions about anything. She told us that even if we’re underaged, we're allowed to email her our opinions on maybe covid-19, etc.

A thing I learnt about her is that she actually was aiming to become a Police Officer, not a Prime Minister. I genuinely thought that it was HER dream to become a Prime Minister, but turns out she was aiming to be a Police Officer.

This was extremely shocking to me, but I’m very glad that she decided to share her story with us.

My highlight from meeting her today is definitely shaking her hand and welcoming her to the school.

To sum up everything that I’ve stated, I’m very glad that she used her time to have lunch with us, I also learnt to have my own opinions, even if I’m underaged.

Task description.

Today, I had to write about my experience of meeting the one and only PRIME MINISTER of NEW ZEALAND. We had to write about the things she talked to us about and I also decided to add in my highlight!

Overall this experience was extremely exciting !

Why is Schooling important ?

Why is schooling the most important thing in your life? Well this is because schooling can give you so many advantages to the world, it teaches you knowledge which helps you build a stable life.

Schooling is very important, the particular reason for this statement is education. Education gives you knowledge that you can use as an advantage for the future. An example for a subject is economics. Economics is a very important subject, which you can learn from School. This subject teaches you ways to invest, save, etc. This is extremely important for the future.

As you know, education can help you build a stable future. I’m gonna tell you the reason how and why it can help you build you a stable future. Education teaches you subjects that will really help you in the future. An example might be mathematics, economics and more. These subjects can really help you improve and teaches you responsibility in the future.

Not only that but education is important because it helps us ‘mature’. The knowledge we get from education helps us develop. Like imagine this as some sort of hierarchy, but instead we start from the bottom, to the top. It starts with education to the future.

Schooling is also very important because it can teach you how to socialize. Socializing is very important because you need to learn how to communicate with each other. Socializing can also improve your well-being in many ways.

An example of socializing improves well-being is my story. At first I never knew how to socialize, so I used to be very lonely. But ever since I learnt how to socialize, I gained more self appreciation and got better at understanding my well-being.

This is why Schooling is extremely important, it teaches you how to socialize, gives you knowledge, etc.

Task description.
Today for writing, we had to create an explanation writing that proves our statement. Kind of like a persuasive writing, but instead an explanation one. We had to explain very SPECIFICALLY on our statement, "Why is schooling is one of the most important things in your life".

Number Visuals

Kia ora everyone!

Today for math, we were colouring in the object in groups. E.g the pink ones are prime numbers. We had to make every different group a different colour.

I was in a group with Lucian, Nina and Waris. At first, we didn't have a clue on what to do since all we saw were shapes and objects. That's until Mrs. Oconer helped us with this sheet.

We all really appreciated her help because we started to understand the sheet more. Once we were done with the sheet, we had to post it on a blog.

The Deca Tree

Today for maths, we were taught that if you make a mistake, your brain grows. We watched a video about having a great mindset to your work and not giving up.

For today’s maths lesson, we were focusing on a question about The Deca Tree. I was put in a group with my great friends Jane, Austin & Aye. We had to figure out how many more leaves were left in the tree, as 10 trunks were gone.

🌳The Deca Tree This is Day 12 challenge... - The Maths Forest | Facebook

We first thought of 10 ( 4 Squared ) which equaled 10,000. This means that we knew that there were 10,000 leaves.

Then I came up with an idea of dividing each trunk by 10, then dividing 10 by each branch, etc.

That means each trunk had 1000, each branch had 100, and each twig had 10. But then we had some sort of argument because a few of my teammates didn’t really understand what I did. We ended up arguing about who was right and wrong the whole time.

Then we later on found out that my strategy was correct.

Maths Vocab

Task description.
Today for maths, we learn what cubed means. We all found out that (number) cubed means the number times by itself 3 times. But other then that, it was basically another maths recap of squared root, squared, factors, etc.

Maths Recap

Kia ora everybody!

Today for maths, we were basically doing a recap of what we've learnt the previous weeks. Like we learnt how to multiply 2 digit numbers,  common factors, etc. We had to prove we listened during class.

Symbolism

Kia Ora everyone.

Today for literacy/inquiry, we learnt something called symbolism. We learnt different meanings on different symbols. We also had to know why people use symbolism, like for example.. they can use symbolism as hints that you're in trouble.

Then we read an article and answered some questions. Then we shared it on our blog.

Level up, Factors and Multiples 18/02/21

Kia Ora everybody!

Today for maths we were basically leveling up from multiples and factors. We went from level 1, to level 2. And I'm not gonna lie, this was actually pretty challenging. Especially the common factors of (number) and (number). We also learnt different things like LCF and HCF, which means Lowest Common Factor and Highest Common Factor.

If you enjoyed, please leave a positive comment on my blog.

Maths with Mr. Moran 16/02/21

Kia Ora everyone!

I just realised that we had some maths slide in my literacy presentation so I'm going to do it! This maths task was about problem solving and our main focus was 'global warming'.

We had to solve 4 word problems that were related to global warming in some kind of way.

Then after we solved those math problems, we have to share it on our blog.

Time Capsule 16/02/21

 Greetings, person in the future.

My name is Nina and I’m from the past. I’m currently in the year 2021, and our world is in danger so I want you to tell me what's happening in your year?

First please tell me ways to reduce a huge amount of the use of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, etc. Fossil fuels cause masses of carbon dioxide, as you know carbon dioxide is one of the main things that cause global warming.

Second, I really want to know if global warming stopped in your year. If it has stopped please  tell me more about it, like I want to dig deeper into your world. I want to know a numerous amount of things about your world. Like how did global warming stop and who suggested the idea to start preventing global warming.

Lastly, I want to know if plastic has been reduced or has it gotten worse? If it’s been reduced please teach me and the world about ways to reduce plastic as you guys already prevented the idea of ‘more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2025’. If it’s gotten worse, can I ask for the same thing as the ‘reduced’.

Thank you for reading,

I’m looking forward to your reply.

Nina

Kia Ora everyone!

Today for writing, we had to create a letter talking to a person in the future using a time capsule. We had to write everything we wanted to know in the future, e.g - " What's the most recent IPhone Model? ". I decided to talk about everything I wanted to know about global warming.

I also tried to write in a very depressing way, but I think it only sounded depressing since I thought of sad music and tried to write in a very sad tone.

This task was super fun and creative so I hope I get to do task's like this in the future!

Global Warming - 16/02/21

Kia Ora everyone!

Today I finished my reading task that was about global warming. We were learning about both global warming and climate change. On the first 2 slides, we had to answer questions all about global warming and how it affects our earth.

Then we had to read 3 articles and to prove we read it we had to answer questions from the articles, e.g "How can we stop climate change from happening". I also wanted to do a little bit of my own research to dig deeper into the 'global warming world'. Since I researched I found out amazing facts that I'll definitely forget in the future but it's really interesting to find out multiple ways to affects our world, etc.

This presentation was actually pretty challenging since I'm not the strongest reader and I find reading boring.

Ready for learning! - 16/02/21

Kia Ora everyone.

I'm gonna keep this description short and simple, as it's a very simple task.
One of ours tasks apart of literacy was this cybersmart task. This cybersmart tasks talks about us getting ready to learn online. On the first slide, we had to make sure we know all our important links to gain access to our learning. Then on the last slide, we had to create a good tip for the google meets with a photo of our setup.

Multiples & Factors -17/02/21

Kia Ora everyone!

Today for maths, our timetables for the week was four! We were trying to memorise our timetables to the point where we don't have to think about the answer and we can say it straight away!

We were also learning about Multiples and Factors. At first I didn't know what they were, so I thought that they were really hard but instead it was actually pretty easy!

I think I nailed today's maths!
What do you guys think?

Learning Economics ! 15/02/21

Kia Ora everyone!

I finally finished my presentation about learning economics. In this presentation I was working with one of my close friends, Anamaria. We've been working on this presentation for almost 2 days. This is the reason on why I've been waking up later then usual, because I was busy studying about economics.

This presentations includes a numerous amount of things. These things are the importance of economics, what is economics, etc. I hope you enjoy this presentation as it's Auckland's potentially last day of level 3.

This presentation was quiet a challenging task as me and Anamaria were both new to economics. But it was also fun to learn considering the fact that I've never learnt economics till today.

I hope you enjoy me and Anamaria's presentation about economics!

Presentation about Aitutaki & Rarotonga

Kia Ora!

Unfortunately I woke up late so I was unable to go on my literacy google meets. So I wasn't sure when to post this presentation but I just decided to post it.

This presentation is about "Rarotonga", and I created this presentation last week! I'm not sure if you guys already know but I'm in a group called Aitutaki Sharks, Aitutaki is a beautiful island in Rarotonga and it's a very popular place for tourist's to visit!

This presentation includes both facts about Aitutaki and Rarotonga.
I found this presentation really hard to create since there wasn't much to research about so that's why I resorted on Rarotonga at the end.

Four Fours Quiz !

 Four Four's quiz.

  1. 4 / 4 + 4 - 4 = 1

  2. 4 + 4 - 4 - √4  = 2

  3.  ( 4 x 4 - 4 ) / 4 = 3

  4.  √4 +  √4 - 4 + 4 = 4

  5. 4 x 4 + 4 / 4 = 5

  6. √4 + 4 + 4 - 4

  7.  4 - 4 / 4 + 4 = 7

  8. 4 / 4 x 4 + 4 = 8

  9.  4 / 4 + 4 + 4  = 9

  10.  √4 + √ 4 + √ 4 + 4 = 10

  11. √4 + √4 + 4 + 4 = 11

  12.   √4 + √4 + 4 + 4 = 12

  13.  4! x  √4 + 4 / 4 = 13

  14. √4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 14

  15. 4 x 4 - 4 / 4 = 15

  16. 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16

  17. 4 / 4 + 4 x 4 = 17

  18.   4 x 4 + 4 - √4 = 18

  19. 4! - 4 - 4 / 4 =

  20. 4 x 4 +  (√4 x √4) = 20

Kia Ora everyone!

I decided to finish off some work that I didn't get to do from the previous week because of prefects, extension , etc. Because of that I had missed a LOT of maths, so I decided to 'time travel' back in the time and do them.

When I went 'back in time' I got introduced by the four four's quiz. It's a really complicated challenge until you learn what every operation does.

This challenge was a struggle considering that I didn't know that a exclamation mark was a operation and I didn't know what square root was. When I first found out about square root I was doing great, that until 13, 19. I didn't know what to do, so I decided to search it up. It lead me too a Wikipedia page with all the answers.
I saw that there was a exclamation mark so I was awfully confused.

I wanted to 'understand' the question before posting it on my blog, since I looked t up I of course had to understand it so it's fair.

I found out that the exclamation mark meant something in the lines of this - 4! = 1 x 2 x 3 x 4. My mind was blown when I found that out !

If you still don't understand this quiz, we basically had to create numbers, 1 - 20 using only four 4's.

I hope you forgive me for looking it up !

Multiplication Magic 2.0 - Lockdown strikes again !

Kia Ora! As you know Auckland is back in lockdown once again for another free days!
It was very unfortunate for this lockdown to happen but I need to use this time wisely by learning, researching, etc.

I hope you'll be looking foward to much more unique stuff, stuff that  I might learn from my extension classes!

Today I just decided to finish off my maths task TODAY.  To just get to over with so the next day I'm able to learn different and interesting things. For this task, we learnt how to multiply with 2 digits. We basically learnt how to expand the equation to make it easier.
First we watched a video explaining how to multiply with 2 digit numbers, although I didn't need too watch it since I've learnt how to multiply like this in year 6, I'm simply just improving.
Then on the next 2 slides it shows us multiplication word problems, so we just had to solve them using our new technique. Lastly we just had one slide which was about place value, which was pretty easy.

Writing Challenge

-The terrible incident of the globe -

One day, a horrific incident happened and it was caused by the one and only SPONGEBOB.

That’s because Spongebob woke up and decided to look in the mirror, but that was a terrible mistake. While he was looking in the mirror admiring his adorable cheeks, he saw an enormous cockroach behind him. “AHHHHH” he screamed, he grabbed the salu lima next to him and tried to smack the cockroach with it.  He ended up smacking it too hard to the point where he technically threw the object away, he threw the object to his special globe.

Spongebob ran as fast as he could to save his treasure but ended up slipping and bruised his knees, Spongebob was devastated..

Task description.
Today we had to do this writing challenge. This writing challenge has rules which you can view over here!
This challenge was extremely hard because I had to only use 6 sentences. And the keywords made it harder because it was hard to make a story with it.

I hope you enjoy my story!

My About Me 2021

Kia‌ ‌Ora‌ ‌!‌
As‌ ‌you‌ ‌know,‌ ‌my‌ ‌name‌ ‌is‌ ‌Simon.‌ ‌I‌ ‌attend‌ ‌Point‌ ‌England‌ ‌School‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌year‌ ‌8!‌
This‌ ‌year‌ ‌in‌ ‌intermediate‌ ‌I‌ ‌was‌ ‌blessed‌ ‌to‌ ‌be‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌class‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌wonderful‌ ‌teacher,‌ ‌Mrs.‌ ‌Stone.‌
But‌ ‌she’s‌ ‌not‌ ‌the‌ ‌only‌ ‌wonderful‌ ‌teacher‌ ‌in‌ ‌our‌ ‌block,‌ ‌there's‌ ‌also‌ ‌Mr.‌ ‌Moran,‌ ‌Mrs.‌ ‌Illaoa,‌
Mrs.‌ ‌Tipene‌ ‌and‌ ‌Mrs.‌ ‌Tele’a.‌
We‌ ‌were‌ ‌also‌ ‌fortunate‌ ‌enough‌ ‌to‌ ‌have‌ ‌Mrs.‌ ‌Squires‌ ‌to‌ ‌replace‌ ‌Mrs.‌ ‌Tele’a‌ ‌whenever‌ ‌she's‌
busy,‌ ‌not‌ ‌here,‌ ‌etc.‌
‌Unfortunately‌ ‌this‌ ‌is‌ ‌my‌ ‌last‌ ‌year‌ ‌to‌ ‌stay‌ ‌with‌ ‌these‌ ‌wonderful‌ ‌teachers‌ ‌so‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌gonna‌ ‌use‌
my‌ ‌time‌ ‌wisely!‌

I‌ ‌was‌ ‌also‌ ‌privileged‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌very‌ ‌important‌ ‌role,‌ ‌this‌ ‌role‌ ‌is‌ ‌called‌ ‌the‌ ‌Prefect.‌ ‌I‌ ‌get‌ ‌to‌ ‌show‌
the‌ ‌school‌ ‌what‌ ‌a‌ ‌good‌ ‌role‌ ‌model‌ ‌is‌ ‌and‌ ‌how‌ ‌to‌ ‌become/‌ ‌be‌ ‌a‌ ‌role‌ ‌model.‌

I’m‌ ‌born‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌family‌ ‌of‌ ‌6.‌ ‌I‌ ‌have‌ ‌2‌ ‌older‌ ‌sisters‌ ‌and‌ ‌1‌ ‌older‌ ‌brother,‌ ‌fortunately‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌the‌
youngest‌ ‌in‌ ‌my‌ ‌family‌ ‌so‌ ‌I‌ ‌get‌ ‌spoiled‌ ‌a‌ ‌lot!‌ ‌Not‌ ‌to‌ ‌mention‌ ‌I‌ ‌also‌ ‌have‌ ‌a‌ ‌dog‌ ‌named‌ ‌Cooper,‌
his‌ ‌breed‌ ‌is‌ ‌a‌ ‌Cavalier‌ ‌King‌ ‌Charles‌ ‌Spaniel.‌

I‌ ‌enjoy‌ ‌having‌ ‌fun,‌ ‌to‌ ‌do‌ ‌that‌ ‌I‌ ‌either‌ ‌do‌ ‌my‌ ‌hobbies‌ ‌like‌ ‌gaming,‌ ‌sleeping,‌ ‌etc‌ ‌or‌ ‌hanging‌ ‌out‌
with‌ ‌friends‌ ‌or‌ ‌family.‌ ‌Although‌ ‌I‌ ‌can’t‌ ‌hangout‌ ‌with‌ ‌anyone‌ ‌much‌ ‌since‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌the‌ ‌youngest‌ ‌and‌
I‌ ‌don’t‌ ‌live‌ ‌close‌ ‌to‌ ‌any‌ ‌of‌ ‌my‌ ‌friends‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌very‌ ‌close‌ ‌with.‌

At‌ ‌school‌ ‌my‌ ‌favourite‌ ‌subject‌ ‌is‌ ‌definitely‌ ‌writing,‌ ‌I‌ ‌love‌ ‌expressing‌ ‌my‌ ‌creative‌ ‌ideas‌ ‌to‌
others‌ ‌and‌ ‌also‌ ‌because‌ ‌I‌ ‌think‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌pretty‌ ‌good‌ ‌at‌ ‌it!‌ ‌Although‌ ‌I‌ ‌need‌ ‌to‌ ‌get‌ ‌better‌ ‌at‌ ‌using‌
more‌ ‌complex‌ ‌words‌ ‌other‌ ‌than‌ ‌simple‌ ‌ones.‌
I‌ ‌also‌ ‌dislike‌ ‌reading‌ ‌a‌ ‌lot,‌ ‌in‌ ‌other‌ ‌words‌ ‌you‌ ‌could‌ ‌say‌ ‌I‌ ‌hate‌ ‌it.‌ ‌I‌ ‌think‌ ‌it’s‌ ‌because‌ ‌I‌ ‌can‌
never‌ ‌focus‌ ‌while‌ ‌reading‌ ‌because‌ ‌I‌ ‌feel‌ ‌like‌ ‌the‌ ‌books‌ ‌I‌ ‌get‌ ‌are‌ ‌so‌ ‌tedious.‌
But‌ ‌I‌ ‌do‌ ‌have‌ ‌some‌ ‌books‌ ‌I‌ ‌like,‌ ‌those‌ ‌books‌ ‌are‌ ‌the‌ ‌Babysitter’s‌ ‌Club‌ ‌and‌ ‌Guts.‌
I‌ ‌enjoy‌ ‌reading‌ ‌those‌ ‌books‌ ‌because‌ ‌it‌ ‌has‌ ‌a‌ ‌very‌ ‌interesting‌ ‌plot‌ ‌and‌ ‌I‌ ‌love‌ ‌it!‌

A‌ ‌bad‌ ‌habit‌ ‌of‌ ‌mine‌ ‌is‌ ‌biting‌ ‌my‌ ‌nails.‌ ‌I‌ ‌really‌ ‌want‌ ‌to‌ ‌stop‌ ‌biting‌ ‌my‌ ‌nails,‌ ‌but‌ ‌I‌ ‌just‌ ‌have‌ ‌no‌
clue‌ ‌on‌ ‌how‌ ‌to‌ ‌stop‌ ‌biting‌ ‌then!‌ ‌Even‌ ‌if‌ ‌I‌ ‌put‌ ‌something‌ ‌toxic,‌ ‌e.g‌ ‌clear‌ ‌nail‌ ‌polish‌ ‌I‌ ‌will‌ ‌just‌
bite‌ ‌it‌ ‌anyway‌ ‌and‌ ‌ignore‌ ‌the‌ ‌taste.‌ ‌I‌ ‌definitely‌ ‌want‌ ‌to‌ ‌grow‌ ‌out‌ ‌of‌ ‌this‌ ‌habit‌ ‌sometime‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌
future.‌

My‌ ‌goal‌ ‌for‌ ‌this‌ ‌year‌ ‌is‌ ‌to‌ ‌improve‌ ‌my‌ ‌reading‌ ‌skills,‌ ‌considering‌ ‌the‌ ‌fact‌ ‌on‌ ‌how‌ ‌much‌ ‌I‌
dislike‌ ‌reading.‌ ‌I‌ ‌still‌ ‌want‌ ‌to‌ ‌improve‌ ‌since‌ ‌in‌ ‌2020‌ ‌I‌ ‌didn’t‌ ‌pass‌ ‌a‌ ‌single‌ ‌reading‌ ‌test!‌
I‌ ‌will‌ ‌do‌ ‌this‌ ‌by‌ ‌trying‌ ‌to‌ ‌read‌ ‌at‌ ‌home‌ ‌and‌ ‌learn‌ ‌different‌ ‌word‌ ‌definitions.‌

I‌ ‌hope‌ ‌you‌ ‌enjoyed‌ ‌reading‌ ‌this‌ ‌and‌ ‌hopefully‌ ‌join‌ ‌my‌ ‌learning‌ ‌journey!‌

Task description.
Today I created my about me for 2021 since I missed the whole first week. I had to write about multiple things about myself, e.g, my favourite food, bad habits. I also had to mention our wonderful teachers in our team 5 block.
