Literacy Planet Recap

Literacy planet is a digital browser that teaches students figurative speech, spelling, etc. Room 4 have been using literacy planet for a while, and this is my journey using this website!

Literacy planet is a fun browser that lets you able to have fun while learning. I especially love the spelling assignments, even though one of the tasks are a real hassle to play. Although they don't only have spelling, they have comprehension, figurative language, punctuation and more!

Compared to maths whizz, its actually quiet similar, but their are definitely some differences. One of the main differences is the speed. Maths whizz usually takes quiet a while, with all the detailed animations, while in literacy planet, you're able to skip those scenes.

Another main difference is the difficulty. As maths whizz lets you do an assessment, its able to track where your maths level is at and is able to find your weaknesses. Literacy planet does not have that feature, so depending on the task it can both be really hard or really easy, which is very inconsistent.

Here are how many points I've gotten using literacy planet for about a month!

ATTITUDE

Today, Robbie and Charlie from ATTITUDE came to talk with us intermediate boys. They made many points, which made us feel less-insecure and become more confident within ourselves. Here is my favourite topic we've talked about.

Shape, meaning our body. We were told that everyone can be insecure about their body, from being too skinny to being too chubby. Although because of that, we're all unique and different. From this, we learnt to be more confident about our body and its okay to be different and to stand out.

Shape also meaning by 'height'. We learnt that its both valuable and both have different strengths. Although they explained it with humour which was a nice surprise! And we were told that if it affects you too much, were always able to talk about it with someone you trust!

In conclusion, boys are all different, from different sizes to our genital areas, height, width, etc.

Thank you ATTITUDE for coming to Point England!

What we've learnt in extension so far?

In extension, we've been learn many things about the Earth and its oceans. The extension group learnt three main things, the first thing we'll be talking about is about sustainability.

I realized that I knew what 'sustainability' was but didn't know a deeper meaning of it. The extension group found out that it was a thing that we do individually. What I mean by this is balancing our usage of natural resources to our needs.

https://mammothmemory.net/geography/geography-vocabulary/tropical-rainforests/sustainability.html

Well we don't have to completely remove these from our lives, but we need to make an attempt to reduce all of the natural resources we can and to balance it out with our needs. It not only is essential to our environments, but the future generations the earth holds.

BIODIVERYSITY

Biodiversity is the other thing the extension group have learnt about. We learnt that BIODIVERSITY describes the variety of life in earth. Biodiversity refers to every living thing on earth, which can include plants, bacteria, animals, etc.

Why is BIODIVERSITY important to us? Well biodiversity provides us with many things, they supply oxygen, they clean the air and water, and lots more! If you haven't realized it yet, its sort of a gift from the gods. It protects us, keeps us safe, fight diseases, etc. If we didn't have biodiversity, we'd all be dead. That's why biodiversity is very important towards animals, plants, and more!

https://www.eurosite.org/eurosite-news/the-eu-biodiversity-strategy-2030-getting-to-implementation/

Lastly, MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICES.

Ms. West has provided us with information that'll definitely help towards the future. Which is making the right choices. Making the right choices means to be aware of the choices and make sure to choose which one is more suitable to your liking.

We can balance our lives by making the right choices. "How does it benefit us?", well it can not only help you, but it can also help the earth. For example, choosing between water and soft drinks. Instead it goes into a deeper meaning. We have to think about the material, where it comes from, how will it benefit us? Another example is shampoo soap bars that are ecofriendly and shampoo bottles. We have to think deeper, think about where it comes from. The shampoo bottles probably comes from a factory, if they create more of these, it'll pollute the air, whilst maybe the soap bars are made in a safe environment, using packaging materials that reduce our usage of plastic.

This is what I mean by making the right choices, too think more about the things were benefiting of it.

Those are the 3 main things we've learnt in extension, but guess what? We've also been learning about a critically endangered species thats around New Zealand! Check out my research explaining how we can help them survive and some facts about them!

This is what we've been doing in extension these past few weeks!

Missing Lengths of Right Angles!

Today for maths, we were learning about solving missing lengths triangles. At the start I found this task really challenging, but towards the end of it, I got a better understanding on how to solve it which I'm really proud off! Check out my journey on learning how to solve these equations. Did I do them correctly? Please leave a positive comment on my blog.

Intro to Pythagorean Thereon

This week for maths, we are learning something called the Pythagorean Thereon! Honestly this task was super challenging and got a few wrong. But in the end, it's all for fun and it was actually super enjoyable as I'm a huge fan of new things! Do you think I did well? Please  leave a positive comment on my blog.

Classifying Rational Numbers

For maths, we were once learning about classifying rational numbers. To be totally honest, I still currently don't have a huge understanding of rational numbers, integers, etc. But I still tried my best to finish of this slide! What do you think, did I do well?

CSI Files

Today, room 4 were secret detectives today. Our wonderful teacher, Ms. Hall used her time to create this really fun and creative task for us to do! We had to figure out who was the secret criminal using math equations to catch them!

Check out my presentation to see how room 4 managed to find out the criminal!

Translations

Task description.
Today for maths, we were once again learning about coordinates! This time, it was actually really challenging. Going into this was really confusing, but got even more confusing! But I still quiet enjoyed doing this as it's great to learn different things that'll push you to your limit!

In the future I hope we'll be learning more about coordinates so I'll become a master at doing them! P

The Coordinate Plane

Today for maths, room 4 was focusing on coordinates. This was extremely challenging but once I got to learn it, it progressively got easier! Although we were only learning the basics of coordinates. What I mean by this is that we had to understand it. We learnt many things such as the order of coordinates, each thing included in a coordinate graph, and more!

Check out this presentation to see my journey on learning Coordinates!

What is Stress and Anxiety?

Today room 4 was focusing on stress and anxiety and how it affects our body mentally and physically, what causes it, what can happen during it, and how to relieve it.

On the first slide, we had to reflect on a YouTube video we watched during the google meets. It was talking about many things such as how to relieve stress, an example of anxiety, and even some definitions of it. Our way of reflecting the video was by answering the questions on the slideshow.

Continuing on to the next slide, we were focusing on our vocabulary. Our keywords this time were, Stress, Anxiety, Isolation, and Pandemic. We had to research the definitions of those words with a sentence to help our viewers understand what it means.

On the next slide, we were focusing on the main topic, anxiety and stress. Instead of giving it a tiny one sentence definition, we had to write a paragraph containing a deeper meaning between the word.

Lastly, we had to create a poster stopping us from getting stressed and from getting anxiety. Using the information I heard from the video, I decided to talk about isolating yourself from social media.
 Check out my poster here!

This is what we did today! Please leave a positive comment to my blog!

Advertisement 2 !

Today for literacy we have created another advertisement once again! This time we created some sort of quirky and weird one! We were told to use very strange, but unique items and create an advertisement for it.

I first looked around my room for something to sell then I saw this! The one and only fuze tea bottle! It was very challenging trying to make this bottle look worth it to the point where someone would buy it!

What are your thoughts on my advertisement? Did it catch your eye? Please leave a positive comment on my blog.

Jojo Siwa should have Unlimited Toilet Paper - Persuasive Writing 8/19/21

 Object , Toilet paper

Place , Mt Smart Stadium

Person , Jojo Siwa

Why Jojo Siwa that works at Mt Smart Stadiums should be allowed to have unlimited toilet paper during the lockdown period.

Jojo Siwa is an amazing person that got the opportunity to work somewhere. This ‘somewhere’ is called Mt Smart Stadium. Mt Smart Stadium employees deserve the world as they create inventions that,,, well kind of ‘helps’ the world.

Jojo Siwa is one of the only employees that couldn’t get toilet paper, she asked the government to just get one packet of toilet paper, sadly she didn’t… that’s why I’m here. I’m here to persuade you all to start a protest to give her unlimited toilet paper.

Statement 1 : Jojo Siwa has a huge impact on the world

Jojo Siwa is one of the few employees that create inventions that ‘help’ the world. These inventions are called the ‘Growtastic’, ‘nUNLIMITEDBottle’ and ‘POWerPHOne’. The inventions I’ve named are very sustainable for the environment. These inventions can create a huge impact towards the earth and are 100% real.

Using these products will not only help you gain the ability to lose money from false products, but most importantly use products that are sustainable and healthy to the world.

In exchange for these wonderful products, we must give those employees… Jojo Siwa, an unlimited supply of toilet paper.

Statement 2 : Jojo Siwa’s poop can cause a deadly virus

As you know Toilet paper is a need during these outbreaks. Some people can’t get hold of them though. As you know Jojo Siwa is one of those people that couldn’t get ANY toilet paper. Well, scientists believe that Jojo Siwa’s poop can create a deadly virus. It’s not only more contagious than Covid - 19 but also much more deadly… like ebola.

If Jojo Siwa’s poop gets dried to her bottom within a week, it’ll create a virus that will put us in lockdown for 2 years at minimum. Scientists also believe that this virus will force us into wearing a high raised ponytail with a bow every single day, every single second.

Scientists have been working on the vaccine for approximately 25 years, and they believe they’ll finish the vaccine in 50 years time. In 1980, Scientists found out that dried poop seems to have its own mind. Which means if Jojo doesn’t use toilet paper soon, her poop will dry and spread all over the world.

If we don’t give her toilet paper in 6 days from now, humans will quickly lose a large amount of our population. Scientists believe that the human population will decrease by 75% if we don’t give the toilet paper RIGHT NOW.

This is why Jojo Siwa NEEDS toilet paper right now! It’s an essential object for everyone, yes, but if we don’t give it to her right now… human population will decrease in a matter of seconds.

________

Today room 1 literacy chose words to create out own persuasive writing. We had to create false facts to somehow persuade the viewers to agree with us. We all worked hard trying to create a nice topic and some statements.

Did you believe what I said? If so, please leave a positive comment on my blog to say what got you into believing me!

All About Me

Today room 4 created a poster to introduce ourselves to the viewers. In this poster we had to include things we like, we are ( nationality ) and etc. I decided to add 5 things, one to introduce me and the rest are things that I like. Such as maths, I love maths and I enjoy doing it in School.

Please leave a positive comment on my blog.

Lisa Carrington Diet

Today room four was focusing on proper diets. We first wondered on what we had to eat, we learnt about calories, protein, etc. We then got creative and thought of an Olympics diet. We first saw a video of what Michael Phelps ate in a day. A crazy amount of 10k calories! We learnt that because he needed carbohydrates because he needs to fuel himself.

Then we got to work by picking an Olympic athlete. I decided to go with Lisa Carrington and researched about what she eats and what she thinks is important.

Lisa Carrington

Today, my group Aitutaki Sharks was learning about Lisa Carrington. To show all the knowledge we learnt about her, we had to display it into a presentation. At the end of this task, we also had to use our imagination to see what Lisa Carrington would eat if she had a meal plan.

Check out my meal plan under here or at the end of my presentation!

Extension Project 2021

Today for extension we were learning about controversial topics. We somehow incorporated controversial topics into the Olympics. I put myself into a group with Valessa, Nadia and Aye.

Before researching, we first chose our controversial topics. There were many options and I chose something including drugs and explain how it's unfair and why it's banned. My friend Nadia also chose this topic, so we decided to split it up and focus on different things, but still relating to the topic we've chosen.

Check out Aye's, Nadia's and Valessa's blog to see what they've learnt in their perspective!

11/8/21, self reflection. Today I was focusing on how using drugs in the Olympics was unfair. Honestly it was pretty hard trying to find the correct information, although I found it in the end. The site I found was really informative and had a lot basic facts about the rule.

18/8/21 - To be continued.

What is a Quality blog comment?

Today, room four learnt how to create a quality blog post. Our class also had a challenge on who would have the most blog comments by the end of the lesson. Kiarah ended up winning with an incredible amount of 10 blog posts.

We first learnt about the three main qualities a blog comment should have.

The first quality a blog comment should have was having a positive sentence. We learnt that it was important to compliment the blogger.

The second quality was a thoughtful sentence.

, and the last one was something helpful.

And of course it has to have a greeting and a goodbye!

Check out one of my blog comments on my friend, Aye's blog!

Task description.
Today we learnt about Dame Valerie Adams. Who is a very inspiration shot put player. Today, we were told to create a google drawing. Then we have to add the following in order.

1. Values
2. What you know.
3. What you want to know.
4. What you found out.

That's all for today!

Olympics

Today we learnt about the Olympics. We learnt about how different it was compared to modern days, and multiple facts about it. Using the information we found, we created either a presentation, drawing, or doc too show YOU, what we learnt!

Versatile Volume P1

Today, room 4 learnt multiple things today. Such as how to find volume in shapes, how to calculate the area of triangles, etc. We all learnt something new that was related to what we're learning.

Healthy me, Healthy you!

Today, for term 3 our topic is ‘Healthy me, Healthy you!”. Our topic somehow represents being healthy. This term we’re gonna be focusing on our Taha Tinana, which is our physical well-being and also our Taha Wairua which represents our mental well-being.

Did I mention something about our Immersion Assembly though? Well let me tell you my highlights! My highlight was obviously… Team 5’s act. Team 5’s act was related to the Olympics, and it also showcased a bit of awareness between our health and why they performed that way.

There were 3 teams, New Zealand, USA and  Australia. The Australian performance was something to do with a yoga ball, it was super entertaining! The reason why they did ‘terrible’ is because they didn’t eat healthy, stay fit, etc.

The next group was the USA group. The USA group focused on more technique instead of eating healthy, staying fit, and more. It basically means that you have to practice more often.

Lastly, the final group was Team New Zealand. They were extremely confident in themselves, they practiced a lot and most importantly stayed healthy both on the outside and inside. Team New Zealand was basically Taha Wairua and Taha Tinana together. They were confident in themselves and their skills and they ate healthy, worked out, etc.

My goal for this term is to participate in sports more often. What about you?

Task description.
Today, we were reflecting on our Immersion Assembly for the term. Instead of writing about the whole things, we wrote about the things we enjoyed watching, such as Team 4's entertaining movie.

Practical Percentage

Task description.
Today for maths, we were learning about percentages. Since I'm still pretty new to percentages, it was a tough challenge. Fortunately I was able to do the first slide of slide 2, then gave up in the end.

Looking foward on learning more percentages with Mrs. Stone!

Finish it off properly! 2/07/21

Today the Prefects created a movie to represent the korero... " Finish it off properly. We created 3 tips so our school would have a positive ending to term 2!

Enjoy! Please leave a positive comment on my blog.

Our KPMG Trip 2021 24/6/21

On Wednesday, the extension group and a few ‘chosen’ students got to go to KPMG. Which is a business that does tax, advisory and finance I believe.

We went there not to learn the three things I mentioned. We went there to have some fun! I’ve already been to KPMG once last year and it was an enjoyable experience and such a great ending to the year.

Last year we were focusing on creating Christmas stuff… but this year our focus was on experiments and science. There was a little scandal with the groups for having too much people in one group, but I decided to move since I knew I would still enjoy the experience with my friend Nadia and Valessa. Our team was called team fire.

Each team had their own experiment and our one was actually really tricky! We had to spin this paper without touching it? You may think it's impossible but this is how we did it!

We first had to create this swirl thing that looked like the inside of the tornado. Then we had to balance it on this pencil which was being held by blue tack... Then lastly, we had to use the fire to move the paper. It was so relieving actually doing it after all the confusion. Then our adult who was watching us somehow sabotaged us and burned our swirl thing, but it was still so funny and so memorable!

The food we had at KPMG was also incredible. They had a huge variety of food, from spring rolls to burgers, etc. You may think that was my highlight… but it’s not! It is immaculate food I will admit, but my highlight was being able to hang out with my friends. It was so fun seeing everyone be able to flourish to excitement!

I would love to thank the KPMG staff for being able to make this opportunity happen and especially Justine for being able to set this up.

Prefects Korero 18/6/21

This week our Korero is Chuck it in the bin. We created another movie to represent different ways to do this.  Our Korero is chuck it in the bin because we've all noticed theirs been a lot of rubbish around our school lately, so we decided to put this to a stop by making this our Korero!

Hope you enjoy!

Today for inquiry, we learnt all about the moon and the different phases.

The Jacket Part 4

Task description.
Today I did The Jacket part 4, but we learnt a new type of conflict... called internal conflict.

The Jacket P3

Task description.
Today for reading... I finally did chapter 3 the jacket!

The Roman Colosseum.

The Roman Colosseum… filled with blood, sweat and tears… the best entertainer in Roman, but what is the history of it?

The Roman Colosseum was built in 72 AD, under the directions of Vespian. The Roman Colosseum took 8 years to complete, and was built by thousands of Slaves. Vespian died during the construction and was opened by his son… Emperor Titus.

The Colosseum was built with bricks, stone, and concrete. The Colosseum was the height of a 12 story house, and it was very wide. The Roman Colosseum was meant to entertain people with Gladiator fights, animal hunts and mock naval battles.

The Colosseum was also built by an artificial lake, which made the Colosseum able to have sea fights, although it was only on for a short period of time. Even though it's partially broken, it still lasted over 2000 years.  In the 1800s humans started to reconstruct it and it’s still in construction till this day! The Colosseum was originally called the Flavian amphitheater.

When it was completed it could fit over 50,000 people!

The Colosseum | National Geographic Society

As you know from the first paragraph, the Colosseum was built for entertainment reasons. The Colosseum held gladiator fights, animals hunts, etc. The most popular performances were the gladiator fights. Gladiators were really popular and if they’re successful they could be celebrities. They could live a luxurious life… But that's only if they survive. As well as other performances, there were mock sea battles. Since it was built near an artificial lake, they were able to use that water in the Colosseum. This performance was spectacular, sadly it only lasted for a short period of time.

gladiator | Definition, Types, & Facts | Britannica

As you can see… gladiator performances were really popular… but who was the most famous gladiator ever? Spartacus is probably the most famous gladiator in history. He was a tough fighter who was able to lead a massive slave rebellion. After he was enslaved and put through training to become a gladiator. Spartacus and other people (78) slaughtered his ‘boss’ Batiatus. ( Bonus fact!

Gladiator Flamma is one of the most skilled, if not the most skilled gladiator ever. He won the most battles ever in history. He competed about 31 times and won 21 which was really incredible. Sadly he died at the age of 30.

As you know the Colosseum is an amazing part of history, it’s a bit “gore” and messed up but it’s still a great influence as well as a great and amazed a lot of people till this day… including myself.

Task description.

This week, we were focusing on the Colosseum... we had to write an information report to showcase how much we've learnt and researched.

Watch your mouth - 11/6/21

This week, the Prefects thought on a Korero idea. The Prefects and I thought of a spectacular idea. We've noticed that there's been a lot of potty mouth and drama lately... so we thought of something to try to stop this. Our principal... Mr. Burt told us the name for the Korero should be 'Watch your mouth', since it's a nice and straight forward name.

We all agreed... as you know the Prefects of 2021 usually do presentations. This time we changed and we decided to create a nice, funny and AMAZING movie! Hope you enjoy!

Conclusion : So there you have Point England! Make sure to use these tips so our school could have a better reputation! So this weeks Korero is "Watch your mouth".
